March 15th 2024 - New City vs Monega

On Friday 15th March, Monega's Boys Football Team played their first fixtures of the year away at New City Primary School.

The squad was split into 2 teams, which meant each team played 2 games. The games were close and very competitive! The first 3 games finished 0-0 and the last game ended in a 2-1 New City win.

Every boy who represented Monega showed fantastic sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the matches.

February 27th 2024 - Panathlon Challenge at UEL

On Tuesday 27th February, 11 participants represented Monega at Panathlon at UEL's Sportsdock!

The event comprised of a variety of different sports stations which everyone had a turn on. We then rotated around each activity every 6 minutes. Each station was scored so at the end the scores were added up to find out who the winners was!

February 6th 2024 - Children's Mental Health Week

This week at Monega we celebrated Place2Be's Children's Mental Health Week 2024.

We helped raise money by running different activities throughout the school, from selling sweet treats, having a non-school uniform day called express yourself and running sports competitions in the playground.

One of the activities was the football challenge. For 50p, you had 3 shots at the target. If you managed to score 1000 points, you won a medal! Well done to Sami 5FR, Eesa 6T & Ibrahim 3M who managed to score over 1000 points!

February 5th 2024 - Fairplay Outdoor Education Centre

On Monday 5th February, Monega were invited along by New City Primary School to spend the day at Fairplay House in Essex.

We travelled to Fairplay House in a minibus and arrived ready to start our first activity which was the zip wire! We had to make sure we were wearing all the correct safety equipment before starting the activity.

We had to climb 4 flights of stairs to get to the top of the tower. Our instructor Connor helped us by explaining what to do whilst we were on the edge ready to jump!

After jumping off, we flew down the 100m zip to the end where we were helped back down to the ground. Everyone really enjoyed it and managed to face their fears!

After having a lunch break, we went on to our second activity of the day which was low ropes!

This activity encouraged us to work as a team and support each other to help finish the course. We had to try and complete it without stepping on the floor which was hard!

After we finished low ropes we then travelled back to school after a successful day.

Well done to Irshadul 5M, Jennifer 5M, Arman 5FR, Kevin 3D and Sadil 3A for completing all the activities and showing great teamwork!

December 7th 2023 - London Stadium Tour

On Thursday 7th December, 16 lucky pupils were selected to have a guided tour of London Stadium!

The pupils who made up the 16 were made up from both the boy's and girl's football clubs.

Simon our tour guide started off by explaining a brief history of both West Ham and The London Stadium.

The London Stadium held the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic games, where we saw medals and the olympic torches!

The London Stadium also holds MLB once a year, in which 2 fixtures are played from 4 baseball teams.

The stadium still has the baseball changing rooms, which we got to see the one in which the Philadelphia Phillies used!

We then got the chance to walk down the tunnel like footballers! 

At Pitchside we got to sit on both the home and away benches and see the pitch from so close that we could even smell the grass!

We ended the tour by visiting West Ham's changing room and the media rooms!

We got to see the players shirts and all the different things they get to use on matchdays.

November 24th 2023 - SEND PE at New City

On Friday 24th November, we were invited to New City Primary School to participate in their SEND PE session.

5 pupils attended and as you can tell by the pictures, they had alot of fun! The session included activities such as climbing apparatus, jumping on trampolines, stepping on stepping stones are loads more.


After the session, we were lucky enough to be gifted chocolate from New City's Mr.Archer!

November 13th 2023 - Bikeability

Bikeability is the government's national cycle training programme. 

This week, a group of Year 5 students practiced their basic cycling skills in the KS2 playground, in order to progress onto the roads around the school. 

Over the week course, some children have learnt to ride a bike for the first time.

For the children who could already ride a bike, they gained the knowledge and understanding of how to cycle safely and confidently on roads which is an important life skill

October 11th 2023 - Monster Kickabout 2023

This week at Monega we joined in with Monster Kickabout 2023!

Monster Kickabout is a nationwide Primary School football initiative from Sports Direct and Nike, created to encourage kids to take up football. We were donated free resources and football equipment to help with our week!

September 6th 2023 - Monega Boy's Football Team Trial

On Wednesday 6th September, we held our annual Boy's Football Team Trials!

Every boy in year 5 & 6 was invited to participate in the trail. The competition was high, with only 12 spaces in the team, a total of 46 boys participated!

Mr.Vanderpoll & Mr.Archer were impressed with the football on show and struggled to pick the 12 boys.

July 12th 2023 - Monega Boy's Football Team's 2023 Final Session

As it was the final Boy's Football Club session for our Year 6 students, we decided to host 3 different competitions and a 6-aside match!


Here are the 3 winners from the challenges:

The 6-aside match was Year 5 v Year 6, where Year 6 came out the winners after a close game!

July 4th 2023 - Shaftesbury vs Monega Cricket Team

On Monday 3rd July, Monega field their first ever cricket team to play a game against Shaftesbury Primary school!

The game ended up being close contested. Shaftesbury won the toss and decided to bowl first. Monega set the first innings with a total of 95 runs after 8 overs. Shaftesburys turn was next, and they finished with a total of 117 runs after 8 overs!

The game was held in good spirits with everyone showing fantastic sportsmanship before and after the game!

Man of The Match was awarded to Monil 6S for his fantastic battling display, helping Monega to achieve the runs when needed!

June 14th 2023 - Shaftesbury vs Monega Football Team

On Wednesday 14th Monega's football team played a reverse fixture away at Shaftesbury Primary School.

Having played them earlier in the year and winning narrowly, we knew it would be a tough game!

The game was very close with Monega defending well and Shaftesbury having more of the ball. A fantastic goal by Shaftesbury's number 11 was enough to win the game for them 1-0.

A big well done to the 9 boy's who represented Monega showing not only good teamwork, but also great sportsmanship throughout the game!

A special mention to Zayaan 5FR who was awarded Man of The Match by Mr.Vanderpoll and Mr.Archer for his game management and effort put in.

June 13th 2023 - Sports Day 2023

This year's KS1 & KS2 Sports Day was held here in our playground. 

We had a total of 12 different stations with different activities which we rotated to try each activity. After we then got back into our classes to have relays races.

Every class teacher chose 2 students from their classes who deserved a medal for their teamwork and sporting ability!

May 3rd 2023 - The FA Cup visited Monega

On Wednesday 3rd May, we were lucky enough to have the FA cup visit our school!

The cup itself had both sky blue and red ribbons on it because of the FA cup final between Manchester City & Manchester United this season.

April 23rd 2023 - Mr.Vanderpoll runs The London Marathon 2023

On Sunday Mr.Vanderpoll run his 2nd London Marathon. He managed to finish the 26.2 mile route from South London to Buckingham Palace in an amazing time of 04:25:23!

The map here is the route 26.2 mile route. As you can see by his vest, he ran for Brain Research UK chairty which he raised over £2000! A big well done to Mr.Vanderpoll!

March 29th 2023 - SportInYourFutures at University of East London

Monega was invited to University of East London's SportsDock for the SportInYourFutures programme. 20 year 5 pupils had the opportunity to visit a University, try some different sports and got given some goodie bags!

The first activity we got to try was skipping. Chris run us through different warm ups and drills to help us improve our skipping skills.

The rope was used at the beginning to help warm up our arms, which we then moved onto placing it on the floor to practicse both our jumping and footwook skills.

We next moved on to Basketball. Coach Lewis who works at UEL helped us with our basketball skills.

We tried different dribbling, shooting, attacking and defending games we tested our basketball skills. Coach Lewis said he was very impressed with our listening and behaviour skills!

Our last activity was Cricket! Our Coach Ben focused on our throwing and catching skills.

We tried two different throwing and catching drills which helped us to improve our skills which we could then use in a cricket game.

A big well done to all who participated!

March 17th 2023 - Boleyn Trust Dodgeball Competition

Monega was invited to The Boleyn Trust's First Dodgeball Competition. Tollgate, New City, Ravenscroft and Monega made up the 4 teams who participated.  The tournament was hosted at Newham Leisure Centre in The Hub.

a Each team consisted of 8 players, 4 girls and 4 boys. Each team played each other once with a win counting as 3 points. 

Monega played a total of 3 games, beating Ravenscroft 2-0, but losing against New City & Tollgate 0-2. 

Well done to all 9 students who represented Monega with fantastic sportsmanship and effort: Ifa 6A, Arsh 6A, Iosif 6M, Monil 6S, Safiyyah 6S, Alexje 6M, Laiba 6A, Niyaz 6A & Jiya 6S.

February 22nd 2023 - Panathlon at UEL Sports Dock

On Wednesday 22nd February we went to The University of East London's Sports Dock to participate in a Panathlon Sports Festival!

There was different stations with different activities which everyone got to try. Have a look at the pictures and videos below to see some of the activities!

February 10th 2023 - New City's 'Football Festival'

We were lucky enough to be invited to New City's first ever 'Football Festival'. This was an opportunity for all members of the boy's football team to play in a friendly fixture against another school from The Boleyn Trust.

Each team played a total of 2 10 minutes games, each being highly competitive even though the fixtures were friendlies. Fantastic effort and sportsmanship was shown throughout, with all participants representing their school positively.

A big well done to all 12 Monega boys, especially Man of The Match Abu Bakr who pulled off some amazing saves and 2 clean sheets in his matches.

February 6th / 10th 2023 - Place2Be Children's Mental Health Week

This week at Monega we were raising money for Place2Be to support Children's Mental Health Week 2023!

This weeks activities in the playground and PE lessons were all voted for by the school council. For break and lunch times there was dodgeball, tug of war and race the teacher activities. Then in our PE lessons, we played fun games which we had to work together as a team!

January 25th 2023 - Trampolining at Stratford Academy School

Year 5 were invited to Stratford Academy School for a taster day to experience life at secondary school. We got to try different lessons whilst we were there, with one of them being trampolining! Here are some pictures of 5FR having a go on the olympic-sized trampolines!

Mr.Bracken helped us with our jumping techniques as well as showing us different moves to try. We tried a 180° turn, a 360° turn and a seat drop!

December 12th 2022 - Snowman PE

On Monday 12th December every year group had the opportunity to go into the playground and play in the snow! No snowball fights were allowed but making snowballs and throwing them was fun! Some children also managed to make snowme, which we decorated with a Sports Star of The Week medal!

As the playground was unusable throughout the rest of the week due to ice, we decided to make each classes final lesson of the year Christmas related! Rather than calling it dodgeball, we decided to call it snowball fight!

December 7th 2022 - Monega v Shaftesbury

On Wednesday 7th December the Monega Primarys Boy’s football team played our first ever home fixturl here at Monega. The game was a 5-a-side match against Shaftesbury Primary, who were a well organised team and tough opposition. The goals were scored by Yusaf 5M, Alexje 6M and Iosif 6M. With all the boys performing well, it was a tough decision for Man of The Match, who was awarded to Yusaf 5M for his hard work and great finishing to score 5.

December 6th 2022 - London Stadium Tour

20 boys and girls from Year 5 & 6 football clubs had to opportunity to visit London Stadium for a tour! Our tour guide Graham guided us around the stadium behind the scenes of the hospitality, warm up areas, changing rooms and even pitch side in the dugouts!

As well as learning about the history of West Ham and Thames Iron Works, we also found out some facts about the 2012 Olympics & Paralympics which we held at the stadium. We even got to chance to see Olympic torches and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals from both games!

November 21st 2022 - England vs Iran in Monega's Fan Zone

On Monday 21st November, England started off their World Cup 2022 campaign in Qatar vs Iran. As kick off was at 1pm, we were lucky enough to be able to watch the game whilst at school!

All classrooms had the game on, but the top floor was decked out as a Fan Zone for selected students to come and watch on the big screen.

England ended up winning the game 6-2, and as you can tell we celebrated all the goals passionately! 

Mr.Ahmed was actually at the game in Qatar watching from the stands and he bought his banner with him which 3A helped to make!

October 21st 2022 - SEND PE Festival at New City

On Friday 21st October, 6 children were selected to attend New City's SEND PE Festival.

Each participant had a go at different activities such as climbing, jumping and bouncing. And they even got awarded medals at the end!

October 12th 2022 - Panathlon's 10 Pin Bowling at O2

On Wednesday 12th October, 6 children were selected to represent Monega in a 10 Pin Bowling Competition at the O2 Arena!

Each participant had a go at bowling a set, with all the points being added up at the end to see who the winners were.

Monega managed to finish 3rd out of 6 schools from Newham!

Not only did the team win a trophy and medals, but Ayan 2S managed to win a personal gold medal for having the first strike!

October 3rd 2022 - Bikeability Year 5/6

This week at Monega, 20 pupils from both year 5 & 6 were selected to take a part in a Bikeability course.

The week consisted on the group practicing their basic cycling skills in the KS2 playground, in order to progress onto the roads around the school. The course has helped them to gain the knowledge and understanding of how to cycle correctly, but also how to cycle safely and confidently on roads. 

July 13th 2022 - Boy's Football Team

As it was the final Boy's Football Club for our year 6 students, we decided to spend the session having challenges and a 5-aside tournament!

July 4th 2022 - Monster Kickabout

 

This week at Monega, we joined in with Monster Kickabout 2022!

Monster Kickabout is a nationwide Primary School football initiative from Sports Direct and Nike, created to encourage more kids to take up football!

We were one of the lucky schools to receive FREE footballs & bibs to help us enjoy football sessions!

The equipment was used in the MUGA at lunch times where we played 6v6 football matches!

June 27th 2022 - Kaizen v Monega

On Monday 27th June the Monega Primary School Girl’s football team played their first football fixture ever. The goals were scored by Alessia 6C and Safa 6M, and a big well done to the rest of the team!

May 25TH - 27TH 2022 - Year 6 Residential at PGL: Windmill Hill

For this years residential trip, Year 6 students visited PGL Windmill Hill in Sussex. Over the 3 days, they participated in different activities such as abseiling and canoeing. Watch the video below to see exactly what went ahead!

May 23rd 2022 - Sports Slam 2022

This week at Monega, we held Sports Direct's Sport Slam 2022!

Each class in KS2 had an hours session experiencing different sports such as basketball, tennis, athletics a station where they had to use their creativity to create their own sport!

A winner was chosen from each class to be awarded with a Sports Slam Certificate!

May 16th 2022 - Mental Health Awareness Week

At lunch time today the school council and rainbow ambassadors helped run some sporting and wellbeing activities in both KS1 & KS2 playgrounds in support for Mental Health Awareness Week.

The event was a success after many children managed to participate in athletics, cricket, archery and football stations. 

March 28th 2022 - KS1 PE Easter Egg Hunt

This week at Monega KS1 participated in a PE Easter Egg Hunt in their PE lessons.

The challenge was to find as many easter eggs hidden around the playground as possible, where they had to place the eggs that they found inside their easter basket.

February 7th / 11th 2022 - Place2Be Children's Mental Health Week

This week at Monega we were raising money for Place2Be to support Children's Mental Health Week 2022!

Our week consisted of throwing sponges at teachers, running races against teachers, reflection time with yoga and buying doughnuts and cupcakes.

In total we managed to raise a total of £626.50 for Place2Be!


A big well done to everyone who participated in fundraising.

December 8th 2021 - New City v Monega

On Wednesday 8th December the Monega Primary school Boy’s football team played our first football fixture in nearly two years. The goals were scored by Kitabou 6C and Jaden 6C, but Player of The Match went to Rayyan 6M for his incredible work rate and teamwork.

October 4th / 8TH 2021 - Bikeability

This week at Monega, 20 Year 5 pupils were selected to take a part in a Bikeability Course! 🚲

They spent the week practicing their cycling skills both in the playground and also on the roads near school. This has helped them to gain knowledge and understanding on how to cycle on roads, as well as having the confidence to do so!

July 5th / 10TH 2021 - Sports Week

Rather than holding a Sports Day, this year at Monega we decided to run a Sports Week! 🏅

Each Year Group had a timetabled slot to take part in a variety of sports and activities along with sprint races to finish. 

The activities were Football Target, Dodgeball, Basketball Shot, Javelin, Speed Bounce, Golf, Archery, Target Throw, Bowling, Balancing to name a few!

Everyone who took part also received a Certificate of Participation which was awarded to their class! 🏆


May 17th / 21st 2021 - Climbing Wall & Archery

This week at Monega we were lucky enough to have Matt from The Warehouse Climbing Centre visit us with their Climbing Wall & Archery! 🧗 🏹

Years 2-6 were timetabled a session so that they could have a go at both activities. 

The teachers also couldn't wait to have a go at the Climbing Wall, so a special afterschool session on Tuesday was organised so they didn't miss out!
